“The Photoshop Effect”

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a nice weekend, I had a pretty relaxing one!  I’m sorry I was kind of MIA this weekend and that I haven't posted in a few days. I was pretty much laying in bed trying to get rid of a cold. Thanks for all of your nice comments on my previous post, I feel a lot better! :)

Before I show you some random recent eats of mine, I want to share this video and two pictures with you:

What do you think about this topic?

Now onto the food!

An English muffin pizza (one English muffin topped with ketchup, turkey deli meat and cheese), with an apple and a banana on the side.

Five pieces of crisp bread topped with butter, and some topped with honey and jam. An Activia yogurt and some dark chocolate on the side.

A tortilla filled with one egg white, cheese, turkey deli meat, hot sauce and a Activia yogurt on the side.

A fresh German bread roll topped with butter and one half topped with strawberry jam. A bowl of raspberries on the side. Say hello to my awesome cow bowl.

  1. I think photoshop effect is absolutely disgusting. I also think it is one of the biggest causes for eating disorders among girls. But on a lighter note, all your eats look great! I love Activia yogurt, especially the peach kind.

  2. I saw those two photos a week ago or so and I couldn't believe it--especially the Mariah Carey one. It's crazy that photos can be manipulated so easily and that its done all the time and considered acceptable.

  3. I don't think there's anything wrong with removing a few blemishes etc, but the extent that these photos are airbrishes is ridiculous! The Mariah Carey one is particularly shocking. Lots and lots of girls don't realise how fake these photos are and it's so damaging!

  4. Of course, photoshop is going to be used no matter what- but it is discouraging to everyone else out there who thinks this is REAL! I think everyone should be made aware of the changes that go on behind the scenes.

Your eats remind me a lot of my own :) They look great!

  5. Magazines Photoshop waaaaaay too much in my opinion, what ever happened to embracing who you are, flaws and all?! I think it sends a bad message, saying you're not perfect enough, ya know?
    Lovin the eats girl!! :)

  6. I think it's a sad fact that our society has become so superficial and people are caring so much about the outer appearance of themselves AND others it results in enormous manipulation acts... Sad AND dangerous in my opinion.
Your cow bowl is so cute! :)

  7. i definitely wish that photoshop was not used because it gives people a false image of what women 'should' look like when we are beautiful without any editing! i would rather see some muscle and fat than see a stick figure. real beauty is not perfection!

your eats look delicious as usual! :)

  9. I hope you are feeling better girl!! Photoshop is definitely WAY over used in the media but unfortunately there's nothing we can do =/

  10. Thanks for posting that video. She's a very good speaker, and the topic is fascinating. I think that it's a major, major problem. I don't know how or if it will change. It makes me scared for girls who are being born right now...what's the world going to be like in 15 years? How thin can the media possibly make the models?

  11. I have learned to totally disregard magazines as realistic anymore. The people are so altered...its ridiculous! Literally no one looks like the people in magazines!!!
That grilled tortilla looks SO good!!!

  12. The photoshop dilemma is a fine line between advertising and reality. Perfection sells, reality does not. Where do we draw the line? It's a confusing thing for everyone--especially girls.

    Great post!

  13. It's sad because so many people, myself included, forget that people don't look perfect like they do in the media, especially younger girls.

Anyway, your eats look so yummy :)

  14. I hate photo-shop! It messes with people's head and distorts our views about body image.
    Very nice eats :)

  15. Good for you for bringing up such a big issue- the changes are amazing!

  16. Photoshop is so misleading - how are we supposed to know images have been altered? Especially young people. Thanks for bringing this up - we need more awareness!

  17. I rarely believe anything I see anymore. There are way too many ways that photos can be altered. It's scary.

  18. I didnt do to much this weekend! Mainly study....

  19. Photoshopping is SO wrong...well, most of the time... :) Girls really do get such wrong ideas that hurt them!

    Thanks for sharing that!

  20. I think that the fact the word is being spread about the photoshopping done on magazine photos and whatnot is wonderful. It's so hard (even for me, now, at 27 years old) not to compare myself to celebs, but really, I think that it's refreshing to know they are just like us.

Of course, there IS the whole issue of "why do we feel the NEED to photoshop" but I don't know about getting into that issue this early in the morning. :)

  21. The media should not be allowed to photoshop people.. That is what I think. It gives young girls a false sense of what they should look like. It is frustrating!

  22. I think photoshopping has gotten way out of hand these past couple of years. So many girls want to look like the people they see in magazines, but they don't realize that even those people don't look like that. They're trying to attain the impossible.

  23. I honestly cant even comment on the pictures. Its so infuriating, and I dont want to curse, so Ill just smile and say whatever :) we all know the madness that is photoshop!

  24. Your meals are always so cute and adorable! I voted on the poll!

  25. Deutches Brot ist sehr lecker! Please excuse me if I got the adjective ending wrong, it's been a year and half since I took german in high school!

But that german roll does look incredibly fluffy!

  26. Uggg, I have 2 daughters who unfortunately pick up my beauty magazines and want to read them. I let the subscriptions run out and I am glad to be done with them.

  27. Sometimes there is just nothing like a handful of peanuts in their shells!

  28. If anything I choose to spin the photoshop effect to the positive - you and I will never have that and thus always look all sorts of amazing in every picture! Celebs on the other hand have to deal with looking less than "perfect" in the real world.

  29. Wow. Thank you for posting that video Shannon. It's a good reminder to us all that the advertisers are just in it for the product...not the customer...nor the models. How in the world could they allow that one model to work with her weight being so dramatically low? It's a shame that there wasn't anyone to step in...perhaps she could have recovered.

Huge kudos to Kate Winslet. I think we should celebrate our imperfections. It's what makes us individuals. Plus, we've got to change the mindset for all the young girls growing up around this!

  30. I totally agree that the ideals we see are completely unattainable, yet at the same time are somewhat expected to be strived for... It is sick...

However I think it is important to get the message out there that that isn't all eating disorders are about. I truly believe that they ARE about other issues, and are a coping mechanism that is unhealthy, just like many other mental illnesses. This does have a huge part in it, but isn't the entire story and that's important to emphasize when talking to a public ignorant on the subject...
